Grenoble, R. (2012, October 26). Vkontakte, Facebook Competitor In Russia, Dominates. Retrieved from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/25/facebook-russian-competition_n_2018714.html
Ryan Grenoble, who wrote “Vkontakte, Facebook Competitor In Russia, Dominates,” talks about Vkontakte’s success as it is still highest ranked social media site in Russia still. Vkontakte is basically the same thing as Facebook except for a few things. This article discusses why it is still ranked number one; because they welcome pirated media. It also talks on how Facebook is flourishing everywhere except for a few countries and how it is struggling to get more gains in Europe and Russia. Grenoble’s purpose is to point out one of Facebook’s greatest competitors in Russia and Europe and discuss how they have the advantage. Grenoble concludes that Vkontakte is the greatest challenge for Facebook in world social media domination. Grenoble argues that Vkontakte is the social trend in Europe and Russia for now but it does not mean that Facebook wont catch up to them in the future or the law for that matter. Grenoble got his research from news stations, Wall Street Journal, CBS, NBC, and SEC, to back up his facts and conclusion. This article is useful in seeing the struggles that Facebook is going through right now and it also shows how Facebook’s competition is functioning in order to be on top. This is good information to look into to in order to understand other companies’ methods or strategies in order to compete with a big business like Facebook.
