Martin, R. (2011, October 10). Facebook Overtakes Cyworld in Korea?. Tech in Asia. Retrieved October 10, 2011, from http://www.techinasia.com/cyworld-vs-facebook/
In the article, “Facebook Overtakes Cyworld in Korea?” by Rick Martin, it talks about Facebook dominating Cyworld, one of the first social medias in Korea. It tells the struggles of Cyworld having difficulty competing out of its country because of Facebook, expanding 16 times, and being hacked. Martin’s purpose is to show the struggles that Cyworld faced in competing against Facebook, even in their own country. Martin concludes that even though Facebook only has four million users and Cyworld has 25 million, Facebook still wins over Cyworld because of monthly visitors, the people that actually use the site. Martin tells us that Cyworld has more users than Facebook; however, Facebook still wins because it has the most active users. He found his research through people that use Cyworld or used to and got his research through other sites such as rankey.com’s graphs and statistics. This is important to read if you want to understand how Cyworld has undertaken the affects of Facebook growth in Korea.
