Welcome to Social Media of The World!

This blog is all about the different types of social mediums in the world, how they are doing and competing against Facebook. This includes social mediums from their own country. Some mediums are being crushed by Facebook and some are not. By creating this blog I wanted to show my fellow viewers a variety of articles which show the methods of other social mediums that are still competing against Facebook. Next, I show the articles that are talking about how Facebook is destroying different social mediums in other countries. I also put an article discussing a specific country, China, that is not allowing social mediums such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. I go into more detail when I discuss how powerful social media is becoming throughout the world and the revolution it is causing. In the social media world, I feel like Facebook is the highlight of the social media universe and the other medias are Facebook’s planets. I wanted to highlight the social mediums that are not used in the world and show my viewers that there are other mediums out there you besides Facebook. One thing to keep in mind is that Facebook is a great source for all countries to use because of the sense of a freedom of speech.

Society Being Out of Tune in Reality throughout the world?

In the blog “Shananigans of the interwebs"  The_One_Girl or Mairah's blog posted, “Missing The Moment” she discusses the article, “Are We Missing The Moment When We Capture It For Instagram?” by Leonard, that states that “Instagram is an addiction” (Leonard, 2014). I believe this statement is true because I have seen more people on their phone rather than talking to an actual person. The_One_Girl states that most people try to take the best picture of a singer rather than enjoying the moment without them trying to enjoy their surroundings. I honestly feel this is how most people are in the world if they can afford the technology. Even for people that state that they are not addicted to Instagram or any other social media, they will do this some point in their life as technology grows more in our environment. In America, this is starting to become a big issue; however, everywhere else that’s making technology more affordable in the world is starting to get as addicted as American’s. The question that I would like to ask everyone that reads my blog is: if we have the power to stop technology controlling us or have people already lost that power? This is not happening to just America but everywhere in the world and we have to accept that fact. I liked this post that the The_One_Girl made and also the article that she put up. It was well done and I highly suggest that the people who read my post should look at this article for themselves.

The Storm That Led Us Out of Technology and Into The Past

Simic, c. (2011). A Reunion With Boredom. New York:
In Charles Simic’s essay, “A Reunion with Boredom,” he discusses the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and that he was without electricity and water for three days. He realize his addiction to technology and the value of being bored without advanced technology. Simic says, “It brought about a sudden and unmistakable realization that we are only puppets jerked this way and that way by whatever device we think we are operating” (2014, p. 376). Simic’s “realization” suggests a kind of awakening. He describes users of devices as “puppets jerked this way and that way,” meaning that media is controlling us like toys, not the other way around. This relates to the world, even though this essay is about the United States, because almost everyone in the world is so involved with technology today that it seems to have a power over us. People seem to talk on their phones rather than actually talk to a person that is standing right in front of them. Being called a  “puppet” means someone or something else is pulling the strings without us even realizing it. This is mostly about Americans being like these so called “puppets”. Other countries besides America are being affected like China, Russia, and South America. I believe the whole world is having this issue with all types of technology, to the point that we may have already been taken over by it. I think at some point the world needs to feel isolated from technology to understand the boredom that the author had in examining the world we live in today.

How China is Affected With Social Media

The video “China’s Social Media Revolution” discusses some questions about how Facebook, Twitter and other outside media is not authorized in China. It notes how the Chinese mobile market is going to be two to three times larger than the United State’s mobile market. The news anchor talks with a Chinese innovation work chairman and CEO about implementing new laws regarding social media in China. At the end of this video, they discuss if Facebook will ever get into China and why Instagram is not blocked. This video is good to watch to see the latest updates regarding China today.

The Revolution of Social Media Today

This video called “The Social Media Revolution 2014” shows how social media changed our lives and looks at facts on how many use social media for everyday life in the world. The video shows facts on big corporations getting big bucks on what they created for the social media world. This is what is occurring today and the increase of social media in our media and the connections we share in a variety of nations.

How Easy It Is To Know Everything About a Stranger Through Social Media

This video called “Social Media Experiment” shows this man Jack Vale, that created an experiment by using social media to find out everything about a person and then talking to the person as if he knew them already. People freaked out when he came up to them knowing everything there is to know about them by the power of social media networks. This shows that any social media in the world can make us into cyber stalk people and have a chance to meet them in reality and already know everything about them.

Mixi Getting Its Butt Kicked By Japan?

Gilhooly, R. (2012, July 25). Why Japan Finally Fell For Facebook. Retrieved from: http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21528756.400-why-japan-finally-fell-for-facebook.html#.Uz4nmV60ZuY

In “Why Japan finally fell for Facebook” Rob Gilhooly reports about Mixi, a social media network in Japan that has been kicked to the curb by Facebook. It talks about teenagers to young adults that are using Facebook more than Mixi because of the better features that Facebook has that Mixi does not. Gilhooly's purpose is to tell us the differences between Mixi and Facebook and the reason Facebook is winning Japan’s social media network population. The writer claims that Facebook is better because it helps job-seekers get recruited and the openness that it has when mingling with other people on the net. He makes a point of finding facts on how company recruits job seekers on Facebook and how its being used in improving the nation’s connectivity with their actual identity. Gilhooley argues that Mixi has many problems with its unreliable system when it comes to fake user IDs, less freedom than Facebook, and about how it cannot compete with Facebook who is growing in Japan and helping them with natural disasters. The writer gets his facts through people that like Facebook over Mixi, using Nielsen/NetRating’s survey to figure out ratings for Facebook in Japan. He claims that Japanese businesses use Facebook to hire job-seekers with Facebook’s adds. This is important information to look at if you live in Japan and want to understand why you should take advantage of Facebook. Either for your own personal life, if a natural disaster occurs or if your looking for a job, Facebook has what your looking for.
